Friends of St Mewan

Who are we?
All parents/guardians of pupils attending the school and all staff are deemed to be members of the Parents Staff Association. We are a small group of parents and teachers that get together and reap the rewards & satisfaction of being able to provide those special little extras for the children of St Mewan. We are a friendly bunch, who are always happy to welcome new faces and ideas.

What do we do?
Our main role is to raise much needed funds for the school by organising a variety of events and activities throughout the school year.

Would I have to attend lots of meetings?
Generally we try to keep meetings to a minimum, approximately 3 per year, and they usually last no more than 30-45 minutes. It appears to work best if we hold them directly after school finishes and After School Club is always available for your children at no charge. If you can’t attend a meeting, then simply pass on your apologies to a committee member or at the School Office. However if you do not wish to use the ASC then there is always an opportunity to join the meeting early at 3pm for a brief overview of the meeting before collecting your child at 3.20pm.

Do I have to become a Committee Member?
Absolutely not. As little or as much time as you can offer, either at meetings or helping organise events, is much appreciated. It’s definitely a case of “many hands make light work”. Of course, if you would like to take on a more active role, you are always welcome.

What is the money that your raise used for?
We use the money for all those little extras that normal school funding is not sufficient to cover. In the past we have purchased; the school mini bus (which has become invaluable for transporting the children to various event), outdoor play and gardening equipment, Year 6 leaving presents, Christmas gifts for all the children, visiting speakers and theatre productions and subsidised coaches for school trips … the list is endless.

How can I become involved?
If you would like to become more involved, and please remember that any amount of time you can spare is appreciated, then please either leave your name and telephone number at the school office or contact our Chairman
